Alert from a Neighbor

This was sent in from one of our neighbors.

Dear Association,

I wanted to inform you of something that happened the other night in our neighborhood so you can warn others.

My fiancee was home alone around 5pm last Thursday evening. She was getting ready to meet me at a client’s house. It was dark and she heard some men laughing outside. At first she thought it was our neighbors. She looked out the window to see because their voices seemed awful close to our bathroom window. She could only see 2 figures in between our bathroom window and our front door. They were not on the sidewalk. They proceeded to knock on the door in which she asked who it was. One of the men said “Carlos”. Being that she nor I know a Carlos, she told them they must have the wrong house. They insisted that they didn’t. She then told them they would have to come back later. Their response was no, open the door. She refused to open the door and the men told her she needed to because they had a gun. She told them she had a gun and was calling the police. They remained outside the door talking and laughing in a sinister way. She called the police and in 5 minutes had 4 cop cars at our house. The men had fled after a couple of minutes. I am assuming they heard her calling the police and realized they better leave. I can only imagine what might have happened if she had innocently and naively opened the door. Or, what if she had left 10 minutes later and they were waiting outside?

A few minutes later, a friend and neighbor called. He said that 2 men had come to their house to sell magazines but his wife told them to come back later. These men who did come back to their house. Their response when knocking was “we are the good guys and don’t have guns”. My assumption is the police must have talked to them.

I hate to make assumptions but these men could have been pretending to sell magazines and looking to “scope out” homes for potential break ins. Or, it could have been 2 totally different men. Either way, we need to make our neighbors aware of what happened in order to prevent any possible future attacks.

Thank you for sharing this with other neighbors as I know we get many sales people in the neighborhood going door to door for security systems, magazines and many other reasons.

Thank you,
