Update: Metro Nashville Public Schools

Each April is budget season for Metro Nashville Public Schools, and the Nashville School Board is working hard to finalize the school system’s proposed budget for the 2017-18 school year. The current draft budget calls for a 7.1% increase to fund increases in salaries and benefits, hire additional teachers to support English Learners, expand advanced academics, and strengthen early grades literacy programs. Click here for more information on the MNPS budget process.

Later this spring, the nine-member school board will finalize development of a new strategic plan, which we’ll use to establish new tools to hold Dr. Shawn Joseph, the director of schools, accountable for progress. At Croft Middle School, we’re developing a new technology initiative that will strengthen the school’s partnership with the Nashville Zoo. I’ll report back with the details of this exciting new initiative as it unfolds.
